Its scope is ginormous. Consider that even back in 2009 there were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>90 trillion emails sent.<\/li>\n<li>234 million websites in existence.<\/li>\n<li>1.73 billion users worldwide<\/li>\n<li>126 million blogs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you can\u2019t find it on the internet, it\u2019s likely not worth knowing or possessing. One of the more useful actions this writer uses the net for is to purchase used books.<\/p>\n<p>Yep, it\u2019s a clash of the old and new. \u00a0Forget Kindle. Reading hard copy tomes is in this writers\u2019 blood.\u00a0 And wine books are the near the top of his favored subjects, with over fifty titles in the man\u2019s library.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the easiest channel of purchase is <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Amazon.com.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0Type in the name of almost any book and up pops the selection ready for a one-click purchase.\u00a0 But wait.\u00a0 Glance down a line or two and you\u2019ll see a used copy that can often be had at a fraction of the new book price.<\/p>\n<p>Sweet.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s briefly review a few of the more interesting volumes on this blogger\u2019s book shelves.\u00a0 The list is not meant to be comprehensive and other\u2019s favorites may not appear here.\u00a0 Nonetheless, here is some solid writing on the subject.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Short-History-Wine-Rod-Phillips\/dp\/0060937378\/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-5610\" title=\"IMG_5664\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hagarty-on-wine.com\/OnWineBlog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/IMG_5664-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A Short History of Wine<\/span><\/em><\/strong> by Rod Phillips; 370 pages.\u00a0 This well researched volume could be read three times and you\u2019d still be learning about the advancement of wine from earliest civilization to the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>American Vintage: The Rise of American Wine<\/em><\/strong><\/span><em> <\/em>by Paul Lukacs; 386 pages. From failure to worldwide recognition; just one fascinating story after another about the growth of the US wine industry.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Home Winemaking Step<\/em><\/strong><strong> by Step<\/strong><\/span> by Jon Iverson; 226 pages.\u00a0 This is this home winemaker\u2019s go to book.\u00a0 An easy to understand guide packed with all the critical details for producing wine at home.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Judgment of Paris: The Historic 1976 Paris Tasting That Revolutionized Wine<\/em><\/strong><\/span><strong> <\/strong>by George M. Taber; 326 pages.\u00a0 The movie <em>Bottleshock<\/em> was based on the events covered here.\u00a0 Wonderful perspective on the early days of modern California winemaking and the revolution it unleashed.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Making Sense of Wine<\/em><\/strong><\/span><em> <\/em>by Matt Kramer; 240 pages.\u00a0 <em>Wine Spectator<\/em>\u2019s premier columnist will have you highlighting passage after passage as he educates in his conversational style.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Oldman\u2019s Guide to Outsmarting Wine<\/em><\/strong><\/span><em> <\/em>by Mark Oldman; 364 pages.\u00a0 If you fancy yourself becoming a sommelier someday but don\u2019t have the time or money to pursue it, this is a good shortcut.\u00a0 You\u2019ll return often to this fun and highly informative reference book.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Passions:\u00a0 The Wines and Travels of Thomas Jefferson<\/em><\/strong><\/span><em> <\/em>by James M. Gabler; 318 pages.\u00a0 And you thought Tom was simply the author of the Declaration of Independence; the man had a serious wine problem in the best sense of the word.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>The House of Mondavi:\u00a0 The Rise and Fall of an American Wine Dynasty <\/em><\/strong><\/span><em>by Julia Flynn Siler; 452 pages.<strong> <\/strong><\/em>A breathtaking story of the family who put America on the fine wine map.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>The Emperor of Wine: The Rise of Robert M. Parker, Jr<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/span> by Elin McCoy; 342 pages.\u00a0 He created the 100-point wine evaluation scale and changed the way Americans evaluate and purchase wine.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>The Science of Wine<\/em><\/strong><\/span><strong> <\/strong>by Jamie Goode; 216 pages.\u00a0 One of the most informative books on modern winemaking and written in an accessible style.\u00a0 A tour de force on how grapes become wine.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>The Wine Trials<\/em><\/strong><\/span> by Robin Goldstein; 188 pages.\u00a0 This one may upset the wine snobs but learn how the average Joe lets his palate guide his choices.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>To Cork or Not to Cork<\/em><\/strong><\/span> by George M.
